Board – Oil & Gas

Board Positions – Oil and Gas (WA & USA)

Background: This oil and gas exploration and production company was moving to the next phase of its growth and development, necessitating a review of the Board’s current and future skill requirements, as well as independence of the Board and Operations, aligning with the company’s corporate governance continuous assessment policy.

Solution: A formal multi-sector Executive Search Project was undertaken by Hugo Lang International in parallel with a multimedia advertising campaign to identify and source the type of Directors who would have complementary professional skills, experience and key networks.  This multi modal methodology increased access to passive and active candidates in the market who could potentially make a value contribution for shareholders.

The research and advertizing followed an iterative approach, working closely with the Managing Director and other Board members to ensure optimisation of opportunities and formal assessment and consensus of cultural and strategic fit.

Results: Three new Board members with extensive oil and gas experience were appointed, including a Chairman (investment banking/stockbroking), and two Non-Executive Directors (legal/commercial/investment banking, and technical/commercial), enabling the retirement of one early stage director, and acquisition of professional skills that have assisted very successful acreage acquisitions in the USA,  bringing increased production and income to the company during difficult economic times worldwide.
